Supported Independent Living (SIL)
What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
Is a kind of support option where the living arrangement gives a person independence in his daily life while receiving certain levels of support to help or supervise him in accomplishing some day-to-day tasks.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is independent living at home or in a group home setting aided by an NDIS-funded external support for adults with special needs.
Some individuals, especially those who have mild to moderate intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities have basic self-help skills and may even be gainfully employed but need different levels of assistance in or outside the home in aspects of personal care, housekeeping, meal planning, transportation and travel, interpersonal and social skills, community access, emergency and safety, among others. This arrangement is most suited to people with a disability who have low, moderate or high support needs.Depending on a person’s aptitude, an assessment of their self-help skills, and their preference, an SIL setting can be availed through a 24-hour supervised and serviced group home or at the person’s own home, including overnight support.
What is the goal of SIL?
The goal of Supported Independent Living (SIL) is to help improve the quality of life of individuals who need support by helping them play a central role in their own lives by being able to decide how they carry out their day, which areas they need support with and which skills they can hone independently to be able to thrive and be an active part of the community.

Choose Where and How You Live
More than just an accommodation, it’s your home.

In a shared housing setting, you can choose to live with other participants you know who share your support needs, or move in a home that is specially designed and structured for people with a disability.
Individual Living
This is a housing setting where you live alone or with others who are not participants but still receive some level support. An individual living arrangement is best if you are able to live independently and safely with lesser external support needed compared to a group home. Overnight support is also available.
